SKCC Joys

I've had a SKCC number for a long time but never used it much. Since the VRX/NS40 does not have a keyer I've been using my J-38. First of the week I ran across the K3UK Sked PageK3UK Sked Page and thats where I've been hanging out. Its a great way to work WAS which I'm trying to do with this little rig.  I'm now up to 26 states worked but none confirmed.  I have several projects I'm working on and will post something on them soon.

The VRX-1 / NS-40 Project

This is my combining the VRX and NS-40.  It is constantly under going small mods. The transmitter has had its cryal removed and machined dip socket pins put in, this makes changing crysyals easy. The main advantage to this is your not stuck on one freq.  Next the rcvr will get that mod. I have 9 40m HC-49 case crystal. Things to come sidetone and replace that ugly toggle switch with a TR circuit.  Does it work, heck yes, its a blast. The rx is very good for a DC type. The TX puts out a hail over 6 watts according to my WM-2. I have had 4 contacts so far.

NS-40

The NS-40 is another 4SQRP Clubs kit that only has 14 parts and is simple to build. It was designed by David NM0S and stands for None Simpler, how very true. Its a 2 transistor tx mine puts out 6 watts with a 12v gel cell, and about 2watts with 9v. It is class E which pretty much means low input voltage and higher output. I built mine some time ago and it was sitting on a shelf untill I started the VRX/NS project. Its different because its built on a PCB, no coils or toroids to wind, they are actually part of the circuit board!!  It works FB as of now I have 4 QSO's on it.

VRX-1/NS-40 Rig

3/4 Completed
30 Sep. This project is in working conditionand has made 4 contacts.  This consists of 2 kits put out by the 4SQRP Club.  it consists of the VRX-1, and NS-40. The VRX-1 is a  small very vertsal direct conversion VXO rx. Right now it is configured for 40m, but by changing a few parts it will do 160-10m. TheVXO covers in my case almost 5khz, and can be replaced by a vfo if you want. It is a complete kit for $25 and built manhatten style. The directions are amonug the best I've seenEach part is shown with examples of how to mount them. Itbuilt in sections. At the beginning of each section is a theory of how it works, then step by step directions, asnd finally what he calls Sanity Check. They are where you check it out The build wentok to me a couple of minor problems cause I'm stupid hi My only complaint is I found it a lil cramped. On my next version I will spread it out a little. This project is fresh in my mind because I just finished it   VRX-1
